Magnolia Liliiflora Nigra tree is a small deciduous tree with a rounded spreading habit makes this dwarf magnolia an elegant specimen tree. Gorgeous lightly fragrant dark purple-red tulip-shaped flowers with pale purple centres and lustrous green leaves come in late spring.
Spectacular in Spring, Magnolia liliiflora may continue to bloom sporadically into summer.
Magnolias prefer slightly neutral to acid fertile well-drained soil. Plant in sun or a semi-shaded position, sheltered from wind and frost. Wind and frost can damage buds and flowers. Mulch in spring to keep soil moist and water if dry and irrigate, especially during the early years. Do not plant in waterlogged areas as Magnolias don’t like their roots to get wet.
