Description

Prunus mume ‘Beni-chidori’ is a fantastic choice for an early flowering small tree to herald the beginning of spring. The deep pink single flowers lean towards a red shade and open on bare branches in late February – March, earlier than most Japanese flowering cherry trees. The flowers are almond scented and popular with a variety of wildlife. Suitable for a pot or ground planting in small gardens growing to a height of between 2 to 3 metres.

Like all cherries, this deciduous tree prefers well drained soil, growing on chalk, clay, sand and loam. They need full sun with an aspect of north, south, east and west facing and will grow in both sheltered and exposed areas.

Symbolism:
The Cherry tree has long been used to attract love. A feminine tree its planet is Venus and its power is love.
