Pyramidal when young with the head flattening as it ages Scots Pines makes a popular specimen tree. Grey-green needles are borne and bunched in pairs and can be up to 7cm long. The seed-bearing cones that appear in autumn on both male and female trees often remain on the tree for years. Of moderate growth, Scots Pine like sun, will grow in most soils and can be planted in exposed or sheltered aspects.
