Mirabelle Countess has superb round dark red plummy fruit, with smooth textured flesh, red to golden yellow in colour which can become flecked in appearance. Semi fertile and full of flavour and deliciously sweet, these plums are primarily used for preserves and fruit pies. The juice is used for wine or distilled into a plum brandy such as the sublime Eau de Vie. An added advantage is that the fruit have a wonderful flavour when eaten raw.
The Mirabelle reaches maturity and is harvested from July to mid-September in the Northern Hemisphere. Now mechanized but once harvested by the method of shaking the trees, the loose fruit is shaken loose and collected in nets under the trees.
Fruit trees like sun and fertile well drained soil and Mirabelle is no exception. The soft pretty white blossom comes in late spring and is loved by bees and little insects. The fruit is loved by birds and people alike and fallen fruit is beneficial to our wildlife who all need help to survive.
Grown on Julien A rootstock with an eventual height of approx 4m x4m. (13ft x13ft)
Our Mirabelle should crop this September 2019. Semi fertile trees will produce fruit but do benefit from one for a bigger crop.
The tree is watered before being carefully packed by one of our experienced staff on site. It comes in a cardboard box lined with straw. (We try to use as much recycling material as possible) The box is addressed to the customer or a specified name and address and sent out overnight delivery to arrive on requested dates.
Please note the size of the tree that you are ordering, as our trees are provided for our clients to plant themselves, which may appear at a small size rather than the fully grown tree as shown in the photos. To find out more information, please visit our Delivery & Returns page.
