The Christmas Pippin is a superb eating apple with a sweet crisp juicy flavour. A round-shaped apple flushed scarlet over pale green & yellow skin with heavy cropping in October. This tree has a pretty shape with a tall trunk, becoming gnarled with age. A glorious display of blossom in spring, opening white from pink buds followed by green oval leaves. Often described as the ”new Cox”, Christmas Pippin is fast-growing and fully hardy and prefers deep rich loamy soil. A small tree reaching approx. 1.8m x 1.8m and suitable for in a small garden or large container.
Position: Full sun Soil: Deep rich loamy soil Habit: Straight stemmed with a bushy crown Flowering period: Spring Fruit: Late summer or autumn Hardiness: Fully hardy Rootstock: M27 Wildlife: Blossom for bees, fruit for birds and small mammals Store & ripen in a cool, dry place: good until January.
History: The Christmas Pippin tree was originally found close to the M5 motorway in Somerset by Geffrey Rowson in 2003. It is assumed that the seedling grew because there were old orchards previously there.
The tree is watered before being carefully packed by one of our experienced staff on site. It comes in a cardboard box lined with straw. (We try to use as much recycling material as possible) The box is addressed to the customer or a specified name and address and sent out overnight delivery to arrive on requested dates.
Please note the size of the tree that you are ordering, as our trees are provided for our clients to plant themselves, which may appear at a small size rather than the fully grown tree as shown in the photos. To find out more information, please visit our Delivery & Returns page.
