Description
Fast growing tree with young leaves tinged red, turning to green, then yellow in autumn. The leaves are one of most distinctive, with the five maple lobes with rounded tips. The acer campestre bears small greenish-yellow flowers in spring followed by winged seeds in autumn. A very commanding tree, growing to over 15 metres tall and living for up to 350 years.
Likes well drained but moist soil in most locations in the UK including more trying conditions in windy and coastal areas. Full hardy and low maintenance with a multitude of benefits to the local wildlife.
