Description
Mainly grown as a specimen tree, although it is also magnificent in woodland or park settings. They are also used in urban street plantings. A deciduous conical to spreading tree with large glossy lobed toothed maple like leaves, purple when young, green in summer turning to a glorious mass of orange, red and purple in autumn.
A fully to frost hardy tree, Liquidamber prefer sun or partial shade and fertile, moist but well-drained soil. It is not advisable to plant on shallow, chalky soil. No regular pruning is necessary but like all trees they appreciate weed, mulch and a feed in spring.
Suitable for a medium to large garden with space. Approx height in maturity 23 to 30m / 80 to 100ft. Spread 20m/70ft.
