Our Spindle trees are putting on a lovely show, with rich red autumn leaves and bright pink fruits that split open to reveal orange seeds. An often-overlooked native, it brings plenty of colour to a smaller garden or mixed hedgerow, while providing food and shelter for wildlife. The fruits are not edible for people.
Hardy and easy to grow, Spindle enjoys sun or partial shade and well-drained soil, including chalk. Water well while it settles in and mulch in spring, keeping the mulch away from the trunk.
