Myrtle

Myrtus communis, or Common Myrtle, is an attractive evergreen shrub or small tree with glossy, aromatic foliage and fragrant white summer flowers, followed by purple-black berries in autumn.

Ideal for a sunny, sheltered position, Myrtle prefers well-drained soil and is drought tolerant once established. It can be grown as a naturally bushy shrub or pruned into a small tree, and also grows well in containers. In colder areas of the UK, some winter protection is recommended.

Its nectar-rich flowers are loved by bees and other pollinators, making Myrtle a beautiful choice for Mediterranean-style gardens, patios and sheltered borders.
