Liquidambar Tree

The Liquidambar Tree is an elegant tree grown for their maple like foliage and spectacular colours in autumn. A deciduous conical to spreading tree with large glossy lobed toothed maple like leaves, purple when young, green in summer turning to a glorious mass of orange, red and purple in autumn.

Mainly grown as a specimen tree, although it is also magnificent in woodland or park settings, they are also used in urban street plantings. A fully to frost hardy tree, Liquidambar prefer sun or partial shade and fertile, moist but well-drained soil. It is not advisable to plant on shallow, chalky soil. No regular pruning is necessary but like all trees they appreciate weed, mulch and a feed in spring.
