Field Maple

Field Maple (Acer campestre) is a fast-growing British native for larger gardens and landscapes, not a compact small-space tree. It can grow to over 15 metres, with a listed mature height of 12–20 metres, so allow plenty of room. 

Seasonal colour: Its distinctive five-lobed leaves, with rounded tips, emerge tinged red, turn green through summer and become yellow in autumn. Small greenish-yellow flowers appear in spring, followed by winged seeds in autumn.

Growing position: Fully hardy and low maintenance, Field Maple grows in most UK locations, including exposed, windy and coastal sites. It prefers moist, well-drained soil and supports local wildlife. The tree is described as living for up to 350 years.
