A new variety of Elder with deep, ‘Black Burgundy’ leaves and pale pink flowers which are lemon scented in early summer, opening from dark red buds. A wonderful specimen tree in any garden and happy in sun or partial shade, but for best foliage colour grow it in full sun, otherwise it can fade to a greenish-bronze. The purple black autumn fruits are loved by the songbirds.
Garden care: For the best effect cut back to ground level each year in early spring and apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant.
Soil: Acidic, Chalk, Alkaline, Clay, Well-drained, wet tolerant
Position: Full sun for best foliage, otherwise colour can fade.
Foliage: Deciduous, purple leaves
Flowering: May
Fruiting: September/October
Habit: Bushy
Hardiness: Fully hardy
Benefits to Wildlife: Berries for birds
Height & Spread in Maturity: 3 metres x 2 metres
The tree is watered before being carefully packed by one of our experienced staff on site. It comes in a cardboard box lined with straw. (We try to use as much recycling material as possible) The box is addressed to the customer or a specified name and address and sent out overnight delivery to arrive on requested dates.
Please note the size of the tree that you are ordering, as our trees are provided for our clients to plant themselves, which may appear at a small size rather than the fully grown tree as shown in the photos. To find out more information, please visit our Delivery & Returns page.
