The leaves are one of most distinctive, with the five maple lobes with rounded tips. The Acer campestre bears small greenish-yellow flowers in spring followed by winged seeds in autumn. A very commanding tree, growing to over 15 metres tall and can live for up to 350 years.

It likes well drained but moist soil and will grow in most locations across Britain including harder conditions in windy and coastal areas. Full hardy and low maintenance with a multitude of benefits to the local wildlife via its broadleaf habit.
