The Plum ‘Malling Elizabeth’ is an exciting early-season variety that was bred at the East Malling Research Station in Kent. Named in honour of Queen Elizabeth II. This plum tree is a pretty shaped self-fertile tree grown on St Julian A rootstock, they grow to a height of approx 3.5 to 4 metres.
In early spring, it produces a flurry of white blossom, followed by green foliage and, by mid to late July, clusters of medium-sized fruits. The plums have red to purple skins with a golden-yellow flesh that is juicy, sweet, and richly flavoured. Perfect eaten fresh, they also work well in jams and desserts. Like most stone fruits, it thrives in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil, with only minimal summer pruning required. We suggest mulching in spring and watering during very dry spells. With its early harvest, sweet fruits, and compact form, the ‘Malling Elizabeth’ plum tree is a superb choice for any gardeners.
