First introduced to Britain in the late 18th century, it quickly gained a reputation for quality and reliability. A vigorous, upright tree, it produces abundant white blossom in spring, followed by glossy green leaves that make it attractive throughout the summer. It produces fruit with a more aromatic flavour than most pears and a colour that varies from green when unripe to golden yellow when ripe. Fruit grows over the summer to be ready for picking in early September, they should be picked when the pears are slightly under-ripe.
Pear trees are usually productive for 50 to 75 years though some still produce fruit after 100 years. So they will give pleasure for years to come to humans together with helping wildlife such as small animals, birds, bees and butterflies. We suggest you plant them in a sunny, sheltered spot with fertile, well-drained soil and give them a light pruning in winter. A heritage favourite, the Pear Williams combines beauty, flavour, and productivity in equal measure.

The tree is watered before being carefully packed by one of our experienced staff on site. It comes in a cardboard box lined with straw. (We try to use as much recycling material as possible) The box is addressed to the customer or a specified name and address and sent out overnight delivery to arrive on requested dates.
Please note the size of the tree that you are ordering, as our trees are provided for our clients to plant themselves, which may appear at a small size rather than the fully grown tree as shown in the photos. To find out more information, please visit our Delivery & Returns page.
