Morello cherries are usually smaller than sweet cherries with beautiful dark red skin and a bitter sour taste. We suggest planting in full sun or partial shade position and can thrive even in cooler conditions. Morello Cherries like deep, moist well-drained loam, sand and clay soil. A good mulch around the base of the tree helps it to establish well and can be done each spring, do make sure you don’t touch the trunk. Water well in the first year of planting if conditions are dry. This self-fertile cherry also helps to pollinate other varieties. It is best to prune standard trees after flowering to remove crossing or dead branches, thus helping to create an open bowl shape.
