The Apple ‘Worcester Pearmain’ is a much-loved English variety dating back to the 1870s, raised by Mr Hale near Worcester. One of the earliest cropping apples every year, it produces a reliable harvest of red-flushed fruit from mid-September. The apples are medium-sized, sweet, and juicy with a distinctive flavour, and distinctive colour, they can be enjoyed straight from the tree. In spring, the tree is covered in white blossom which is great for bees and pollinators alike. In autumn its bright red fruit and golden foliage bring seasonal charm.
Compact and hardy, even the larger rootstocks are quite dwarf. Though the fruit does not store for long, it remains popular for its unique taste, bright colour and historical importance. The tree thrives in full sun and well-drained fertile soil, performing well across much of Britain. It is partially self-fertile but will crop more heavily with another apple nearby. Bare root planting in winter is the most cost-effective and reliable way to establish a strong, healthy tree, giving it the best possible start. With its heritage, flavour, and beautiful bright red fruit, the ‘Worcester Pearmain’ is a fine addition to any traditional orchard or garden.
Bareroot
The tree is watered before being carefully packed by one of our experienced staff on site. It comes in a cardboard box lined with straw. (We try to use as much recycling material as possible) The box is addressed to the customer or a specified name and address and sent out overnight delivery to arrive on requested dates.
Please note the size of the tree that you are ordering, as our trees are provided for our clients to plant themselves, which may appear at a small size rather than the fully grown tree as shown in the photos. To find out more information, please visit our Delivery & Returns page.
