Almond trees are a close relation and in some ways very similar to the peach tree. The only difference being that the tangy flesh of the peach is replaced by a thin coat over the stone which has a delicate shell and a large sweet kernel which is the part that we eat.

Almond plants are more at home in warmer climates. But, almonds grow quite successfully in the UK, especially in southern areas. The almond tree produces pink, attractive blossom that adds a smattering of colour to the garden in early springtime and although similar to peach and nectarine trees, almond trees are far less susceptible to diseases.
