Mulberry plants are worth space in any garden for their soft, heart-shaped leaves and sweet, juicy fruits. The mulberry tree will tolerate most soil conditions, preferring a light well-drained soil and a warm aspect where possible, but they are rarely bothered by low temperatures or disease as they come into flower late, at around August/September time.
They have incredibly brittle roots as young plants and are best planted in early spring. It is an extremely long-lived tree which will spread almost as wide as tall and as they grow older they tend to bend towards the ground.
