Nyssa Sylvatica, also known as tupelo and black gum, is a medium deciduous tree with a handsome broadly columnar shape. With a magnificent autumn colour of orange, scarlet and yellow. The Black Gum tree is a perfect specimen tree although it also works well in borders.

Dark green glossy obovate to oval leaves appear in spring followed by insignificant flowers and fruit which are beneficial pollinators and wildlife.

Low maintenance and undemanding, the Nyssa is easy to grow and care for. They can cope with both wet and dry soils and grow in fuller sun or partial shade. For best results choose moist, humus-rich fertile, neutral-to-acid soil in a sheltered wind free area.
