Rose Bonica is a fully hardy rose thriving in most soils except for chalk. All roses do prefer fertile well drained soil and love sun or a little shade. Rose Bonica is a useful rose to cut and make a glorious flower arrangement. It can be grown as a shrub, ground cover or container rose. It makes the most wonderful hedge, protective as well as beautiful. A glory of protective pink blooms to stop you in your tracks – literally. Bonica can reach a height of 1.5m but is best pruned back to about half its size every other year. Rose oil and essence have long been used in the loveliest of perfumes and are also used for many health remedies.
Feed Bonica Rose in late winter or early spring with a balanced fertilizer and apply a mulch. Always remove dead flowers. To improve the health quality and shape of the rose, prune in the dormant season or preferably in spring before young shoots develop, removing dead or damaged wood. Roses like being fed through spring –summer at three weekly intervals but this is a treat to improve the quality of the blooms. Bees benefit from the flowers and the rose hips can help the birds in winter.
Special features: Fragrant flowers loved by bees. Provides good hedging and cover
