Pear plants need pruning immediately after planting. Remove the central stem to just above the highest side branch. Pear trees must be planted in well-drained soil in a sheltered position, with plenty of sunlight and supported by a stake.

In spring, weed, mulch and spray seaweed solution every month to protect the flowering from frost. Pears suffer from fewer diseases than other fruits like apple but will produce their best crop when planted near another pear tree; increasing pollination.
