A small tree of spreading habit grown for its flowers and autumn colour. With grey flaking bark and large deep geen leaves that turn crimson-gold in autumn. Small delicate bright red flowers in late winter or early spring. An unusual and attractive tree. Suitable for most gardens.
Fully hardy although flowers could be damaged by hard frost. Requires full sun and likes fertile, moist but well-drained soil. It is lime-tolerant but usually colours best in acid soil.
